I come from Melbourne, Australia and now live in Germany, so I’m no stranger to long distance travel. In the last ten years, I’ve almost exclusively travelled alone with my daughter - since she was 7 months old. You could say I am now an expert in travelling and packing for any possible situation.
Before any long flight I think about every step of my trip and ways I can make everything as efficient and practical as possible. These are the steps to consider:
Before you leave
How to get through the airport
Airplane comfort
Travel safety
The comforts of home
Here are some products that will help you organise the trip and therefore get into the holiday mood faster.
Before you leave
Who wants to pack dirty shoes with clean clothes? These shoe bags are perfect to keep them separate from the rest of your luggage and can also be used for packing underwear.

How to get through the airport
Always check your airline for baggage allowance because airlines have gotten strict with not only check-in luggage, but also carry-on luggage.
Therefore, when travelling by plane, either short-haul or long-haul, I always pack a luggage scale. A digital scale is light and compact, but I prefer a mechanical one because I don’t want the hassle of buying batteries.

Keeping your passport, printed documents, credit cards, airline loyalty cards and SIM cards in one spot is handy because you will need to take them out at various points in the airport. The following passport cover has slots for all those things, plus a luggage tag which is also essential for your check-in luggage.

Small details can ease the process of getting through an airport, especially if you have small children and you need to keep your hands free. This luggage hook allows you to hang a jacket or shopping bag on your suitcase handle.

Liquids taken onto the aircraft must be carried in a transparent, plastic bag without exceeding 1 litre and no individual container can hold more than 100 ml. These toiletry bags are my favourite. When you are juggling your carry-on luggage, jacket, electronics, keys and maybe kids through airport security you can strap it on your wrist to free your hands.

I recently discovered e.l.f. daily facial cleanser and not only is it vegan and cruelty free, but it also contains hyaluronic acid and ceramides, and it’s been great for my skin. I haven’t tried the toner or facial cream, but the brand is known for its’ great quality. This travel set is great for women as well as men.

Airplane comfort
If you’re travelling on a long-haul flight (7+ hours) each seat will be equipped with inflight entertainment with films, TV shows, music and games. Instead of using the airline issued headphones, it’s worth investing in a Bluetooth transmitter to connect to your Bluetooth headphones. It’s especially useful for small children. The standard issued ones are not adjustable for children and will slip and fall off. This Bluetooth gadget comes with a two-prong airplane jack and can connect simultaneously to two devices.

This airplane footrest let’s you put your feet up during long flights and bus rides. However, it’s probably not useful for tall passengers who struggle with legroom.

Travel safety
Some countries are unbelievably safe while for others the opposite is true. If you are worried about pickpockets or if you just want to keep your most important things like passport, cash and credit cards safe at all times then this strap on bag makes a very convenient and compact travel accessory. It can be worn flat around the waist or across the body and includes a RFID blocker to protect your cards from unauthorised scanners to steal your information.

What do you do with your money, credit cards and telephone at the beach or pool? It’s stressful wondering if your belongings are safe while you swim, surf or paddle so this waterproof pouch with mobile phone pouch are perfect to give you peace of mind. And it comes in 5 different colours.

Die Annehmlichkeiten von zu Hause
Sometimes small things make your trip more comfortable. If you are like me and like to iron your shirts and pillowcases (yes, I like a smooth pillow) this mini travel iron is for you.

After ironing your shirt, it makes sense to hang them on these fold away clothing hangers. I prefer to hang a lot of my clothing and having these helps me stay organised even if my accommodation doesn’t have hangers.
